...the Otakon Weapons Policy.
I know they've banned pretty much everything in order to look out for all the con-goers' safety, but now our options (especially for prop guns) are extremely limited.
This kind of sucks when you want to do a Hellsing cosplay and don't want to fork out hundreds of dollars to re-model and customize a toy gun, OR walk around the con all day worrying that the Spec Ops are going to swoop down and tear you to pieces for your "movable parts."
Caitlin, you may want to reconsider attempting to re-construct Rip's big-ass gun, because the staff is going to give you hell for it if it's not obviously fake. Unless you make it out of paper mache or something, you might have some issues.
Another problem is getting weapon props TO the con, especially after what happened at the Boston con when some kids almost got shot for carrying props that looked a little too real. The staff recommends that you actually keep your props in a bag or something before you get into the BBC in order to avoid any awkward/dangerous situations like that.
I honestly think it's too much of a hassle now to even bother.
You can find something off of random
toy sites if you look for something that vaguely resembles what you need, but even then you need to invest in super glue (for those damn "movable parts") and paint.
And, at the end of it all, the gun still needs to be topped/plugged/painted with something orange.
